Austerity Dinner at The Bridge End Inn

Wartime in Llanychaer

Llais Llanychaer's latest event has proved to be our best ever.  In the early part of the year we decided to offer something a little different and decided on an exciting project that portrayed life in Llanychaer during the war years of the 1940s.

The event which spanned an entire weekend, began on Friday with an Austerity Meal at the Bridge End Inn. Saturday saw a Wartime Dance at the Gwaun Valley Brewery, and on Sunday a Victory Tea preceded by a visit to an ex MOD armaments depot. All these events were supported by an Exhibition at Llanychaer's St Davids Church with photographs and memorabilia of life in Llanychaer during the wartime years.

We wanted to depict what life was like, whilst enabling people to have a good time.

Take the time to look at the four main pages linked via this page. Read the narrative from those who organised the events and enjoy the photographs, and then hopefully you can share some of the nostalgia created by the weekend.
